Otter Lake Farm

Our Big Little Farm in the Beutiful Spallumcheen Valley of British Columbia

Welcome to Otter Lake Farm

Picture
We are a small diverse farm in the Spallumcheen Valley near the city of Armstrong in the North Okanagan of British Columbia.

As our name implies, we are on Otter Lake and have become appreciators of the seasons on the lake.

Round or small square bales are available for sale. The bales are horse, sheep ,or cattle quality. First cut mixed hay or second cut alfalfa is available dependent on the growing season. Delivery is also available.

We also custom farm small properties in the area; tilling, planting, and cutting hay.

As well as hay, we raise and sell show quality Canadian Style Purebred Registered Suffolk Sheep; ewes, rams and lambs.

A select few are offered for sale for starter flocks or 4H projects each year. Our Purebred Suffolk bloodlines can be found from Canada coast to coast.

Each fall we offer custom-cut quality lamb. Our young lamb is in demand and we take orders all year long. Be in touch.

Most recently, cattle have been added to our menagerie. We offer custom-cut grass fed, grain finished beef every fall. Grain finishing is a more efficient system when it comes to raising beef cattle. This gives the beef a type of fat marbling that North Americans have grown accustomed to.

There are many benefits to buying locally grown food, and each person makes their choice for different reasons. Locally grown food creates important economic opportunities, provides health benefits and helps to reduce environmental impact. It also helps bring the community together and gives people the opportunity to make a difference.

Contact us to reserve your homegrown grass-fed beef available for purchase in 1/4, 1/2 or whole.

Additionally, many people feel local food tastes better and lasts longer. They also find peace of mind knowing exactly where their food came from and how it was grown. For others, supporting community economics and building relationships with local food producers is incredibly important, as is protecting the environment.

Farming is a lifestyle, complete with hard work and long winter nights at the barn during lambing time. It's all worth it when witnessing the birth of healthy lambs or getting another hay crop into the barn before the rain.

At Otter Lake Farm we are actively involved in the agriculture industry locally, provincially and nationally.

To complete the scene, as with most farms, we have a few more species sharing our home and pastures.

We love our horses and so you will see a few stray images of them along with our house buddies, dogs and cats.

Horse ownership can be very exciting, rewarding and yes challenging! Our herd has frequented the show pen in reining and can often be seen on the local and not so local trails!

Wool is renewable, sustainable, 100% natural and biodegradable. And it is also fire resistant. Wool breathes to control body temperature, humidity and comfort. It is naturally hypo-allergenic.
Wool provides
• lightness and comfort all year round
• relief from allergies and has a natural resistance to dust mites
• a microclimate to suit you (warm in the winter and cool in the summer)
• transfer of moisture away from your skin, helping to maintain an even body temperature throughout the night, resulting in a deeper more restful sleep.

There is a good supply of roving and wooly dryer balls in house as well as some yarn. Be in touch for availability or to order.

Suffolk Sheep are popular not only in Canada but around the world as meat producers. Our breeding program has developed a strong flock of ewes and rams we call Canadian Style Suffolk Sheep. They have clean black faces and legs while their bodies are covered with short white wool. They possess the classic Suffolk characteristics with good bone, long loin and a strong croup to enhance any commercial or purebred flock.

We would love to hear from you.
